BOST is a six week intensive exercise in the English Channel Exercise Areas, testing all areas of the ship under the watchful eye of Flag Officer Sea Training's team (FOST). This testing is carried out after a period of refit or any prolonged period of being in dock. The main emphasis of Exercise Gadfly was to train the aircrew in the flying of the Lynx Mk7 to the uppermost limits of its performance capabilities in hostile environments. They undertook high altitude mountain training to prepare them for next deployment to Afghanistan. ）
