2014年4月23日，北海空域，俄罗斯空军二架 Tu-95MS 战略轰炸机由北方接近北约空中警戒区，随后进入英国飞航情报区，英国空军第六中队的“台风”战斗机从苏格兰卢赫斯空军基地紧急升空前往识别监视和拍照，这是英国空军战机和俄罗斯军机间长期以来“猫捉老鼠游戏”的最新一起，在进入英国领空之前 Tu-95MS 掉头飞往北欧，荷兰和丹麦战机也一度升空拦截。Tu-95MS 是 Kh-55（AS -15）空射巡航导弹的发射平台，1979年9月首次成功进行导弹发射测试, 1981年之后开始生产，时至今日，Tu-95MS 依然老骥伏枥，充当俄罗斯空军的主力远程打击力量，时常出没于各种敏感空域。（Weds 23rd April 2014 - A Russian Tu-95 Bear 'H' photographed from a RAF Typhoon Quick Reaction Aircraft (QRA) with 6 Squadron from RAF Leuchars in Scotland.RAF Typhoon Quick Reaction Alert aircraft were launched from RAF Leuchars yesterday to determine the identity of unknown aircraft that approached the NATO Air Policing Area north of Scotland and could not be identified by other means. The aircraft were subsequently identified as Russian military reconnaissance (Bears). The Russian Bears aircraft remained in international airspace as they are perfectly entitled to do.Pilot Flt Lt Gary Montgomery:"Typhoon Quick Reaction Alert stands ready to scramble at a moments notice, 24/7, all year long, to maintain the integrity of UK airspace. We scrambled on 23 April 2014 to intercept two unknown aircraft approaching the NATO Air Policing Area from the north, that then entered the UK Flight Information Region (FIR). We intercepted and flew within visual range and identified them as Russian Tu-95 ‘Bear H’ aircraft. We monitored their progress, including handing them over to Danish F-16 QRA aircraft as the Bears flew into the Danish FIR, then continued to monitor them as they re-entered and then departed the UK FIR to the North heading towards Norwegian airspace. During the sortie we air refuelled twice from a RAF Voyager aircraft, from RAF Brize Norton, to increase our airborne endurance. Intercepting Russian Bear aircraft is a routine occurrence for us, it’s what we do to maintain UK Sovereign airspace.”）
