1944年6月29日，北大西洋靠近纽约长岛海域，美国海岸警卫队 HNS-1“食蚜蝇”直升机在科布号上进行着舰测试，为进行此种测试，科布号加装了大面积的飞行甲板，因此而成为世界首艘可搭载直升机的军舰。（View of operations in connection with an HNS-1 Hoverfly performing landing evaluation tests on board the Coast Guard vessel Cobb (WPG 181), 29 June 1944.）
