美国内华达州内利斯空军基地，红旗 14-1 联合空战演习中，英国空军第6中队（苏格兰卢赫斯空军基地）一架“台风”FGR4 战斗机在停机坪，其背后是灯火璀璨的拉斯维加斯。（6 Squadron currently deployed on Exercise RED FLAG 14-1 at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada celebrated their 100th Anniversary during a short period between Exercise sorties. The Squadron are based at RAF Leuchars and operate Typhoon FGR4 aircraft. They were formed in 1914 at Farnborough from the Royal Flying Corp and originally operated as artillery spotters over the battle fields of Northern France. The Squadron has a rich operational history, serving continually overseas from 1919 to 1969 across the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Middle East. During the North Africa Campaign they operated Hurricane IID aircraft in an interdiction role destroying German tanks; a role from which they became known as the ‘Flying Canopeners’. Formal Squadron celebrations will take place in early April once the Squadron returns from the Exercise.
