On 16 July 2011, 14 media and six Australian and United States defence members embarked on a United States Navy C-2A Greyhound transport aircraft at RAAF Base Darwin, bound for the United States Navy aircraft carrier USS George Washington. During a four-hour long visit, they had the opportunity to see flight operations from the deck of the carrier, and saw HMAS Darwin sailing alongside the aircraft carrier. USS George Washington is sailing in the Arafura Sea for Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011, launching its Carrier Air Wing for missions with United States Air Force F-15s and Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18s over training airspace in the Northern Territory.）
