The latest batch of C-130J student captains and co-pilots have ‘left the nest’ to conduct training at RAAF Base Amberley. During the week-long visit to Amberley, instructors from No. 285 Squadron at RAAF Base Richmond will train pilots on operating the Hercules in a new environment. The total conversion course for captains and co-pilots on to the C-130J takes approximately six-months, and includes a mix of flying training in a cockpit simulator at RAAF Base Richmond as well as flights from RAAF Base Richmond, taking in airports and bases across Australia and New Zealand. The current course is expected to finish conversion with ‘Exercise Precision Red’ at RAAF Base Townsville this December.）
