2016年2月5日，意大利空军一架在卡梅里组装的 F-35A 在KC-767加油机的支援下飞越大西洋抵达马里兰州帕塔克森特河海军航空站，这是F-35历史上首次跨大西洋飞行，也是首架国外组装的F-35飞抵美国本土。这架F-35将在帕塔克森特河海军航空站停留2~3个月进行电磁环境兼容试验，之后转场卢克空军基地进行伙伴训练。（NAS Patuxent River (February 5, 2016) An Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) KC-767 aerial refueling tanker and an Italian Air Force F-35A Lightning II aircraft made aviation history Feb. 5 as the next generation stealth fighter completed the very first F-35 trans-Atlantic Ocean crossing. The tanker refueled the F-35A during a two-phase, 11-hour deployment across the North Atlantic from Cameri Air Base, Italy to NAS Patuxent River. The F-35A aircraft is the first international F-35 jet fully built overseas at the Cameri Final Assembly & Check-Out (FACO) facility and is also the first F-35 assembled outside of the U.S. to land on U.S. soil.）
