More than 4400 Sailors and Marines from the United States and Republic of Korea participated in this year's Exercise Foal Eagle. Foal Eagle is an annually scheduled combined/joint exercise involving forces from the United States and Republic of Korea (ROK). FE 07 is designed to provide training for our forces in resolve to support the ROK against any external aggression while improving ROK/U.S. combat readiness through joint/combined interoperability. Essex is the Navy's only forward-deployed multi-purpose amphibious assault ship and is sailing with Foal Eagle Amphibious Task Force, operating off the west coast of Korea.）
